Did you know using a weekly scrub on your skin is the perfect way to exfoliate your body as it removes the old dead skin from the surface; ensuring a healthy fresh glow. Using a scrub on your skin can also lift away dirt and excess oil as well as stimulate circulation (which can be good for getting rid of cellulite!). If you’re vegan it can be tough finding products that you 100% know contain no nasties so making your own scrub is the best way to ensure you keep up with your vegan lifestyle. If you aren’t vegan making your own scrub can still be beneficial as it’s always nice to know what actually goes into a product you use.
So, if you tend to indulge yourselves with face masks and scrubs all the time then check out our 5 favourite easy to make vegan, facial scrubs!
Oat Face Scrub
To make this simple yet super effective face scrub, take 1 cup of whole rolled oats and mix it with ½ cup of unsalted raw almonds. Once combined, then add in 2tbsp of a relaxing scent such as chamomile oil to blend.
Glow Body Sugar Scrub
This scrub can be made using a variety of sugars depending on your preference, however brown sugar is softer and therefore may be better for a facial scrub as it’s not as harsh! However, if you don’t like brown sugar you can also use white or pure cane sugar instead!
To make this scrub add 1 cup of sugar to 3 tbsp.’s of sweet almond oil or coconut oil. You can also add in a few drops of your favourite essential oil to make it more relaxing. Once mixing, the consistency should be sandy and soft.
Coffee Facial Scrub
This face scrub will give you an energizing boost to kick start your day! In order to make, simply mix 6 tbsp.’s of coffee with 4 tbsp.’s of olive oil until it makes a paste. When applying, make sure not to leave the scrub on longer than 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Almond and Avocado Scrub
This facial scrub is a very hydrating blend of ingredients and should mainly be used at night, in order for the oils and nutrients to be absorbed into your skin. To make, simply process 1/3 cup of almonds and 1 cup of oats down into a fine consistency and then add to 1 mashed avocado. Apply to your face and leave for 10 minutes before rinsing off in the shower. This scrub should be freshly made each time you use!
Charcoal Exfoliating Facial Scrub
Due to its detoxifying properties, active charcoal is a great addition to a natural beauty routine. It is good at calming the skin down and reducing acne, even in spot prone skin. To make, mix 1/3 cup of cane sugar with 2 activated charcoal capsules (1/2 tsp of powder) and whisk together in a bowl or jar. Then add 2 tbsp.’s of sweet almond oil and combine. The mixture should look like wet, black sand. (I promise you it’s worth it, even if it doesn’t look the best!)
