Meet the Miss behind Miss Organics
It all started with a lip balm. Women are often known to be obsessed with shoes or bags – for me this single obsession is lip balms. From the age of ten I used to have over a dozen different lip salves at any given time (as my sisters will attest!) and I was in a constant pursuit to find the perfect one that would not only stop the chafing on my lips but also smell as well as look divine: creamy in consistency but not too shiny on the lips. This pursuit continued for many years until the day my mum casually let me try a lip balm made by her friend and that was my eureka moment! I could start making my own – and thus the idea of Miss Organics was born.
I had recently started my first graduate job after acquiring a degree in Business Management but always dreamed of being an entrepreneur and creating something that would bring value to the world and help live in harmony with nature. I retrained whilst working full time, and spent four years formulating and testing each single beauty creation until I was one hundred percent happy with it.
Receiving the homemade lip balm from my mum coincided with a shocking discovery I made about the dangers of synthetic cosmetics. I had always been committed to eating a healthy diet but never thought about what I put on my skin. Having just learned that our skin absorbs on average sixty percent of what is applied on it, it was incredibly eye opening to realise that together with the hydrating and youth-promoting ingredients featured in ads, the skin absorbs the synthetic chemicals, directly into the bloodstream. Certain chemicals used in skincare not only irritate skin, but these toxins can build up in the body and are often linked to various health problems. Many leading (including upmarket) skincare brands use these chemicals because they are cheap and prolong shelf life, and some companies even use false ‘organic’ claims. Whilst retraining, in my day job I worked in the finance department of a British beauty brand and discovered that unfortunately all these facts about the industry were true, further strengthening my motivation to reveal the potent power of 100% plant-based products.
I had made the switch to natural beauty but wanted everyone else too to learn about the importance of what we put on our skin and how much better natural, organic skincare is. However I discovered the majority of the existing natural skincare brands lacked appeal as either their packaging was not attractive, the scent wasn’t likeable, or they weren’t effective. I set out to create a range that is as pure as possible using only the finest organic ingredients, but also a brand that is very chic and modern in style. I apply my analytical skills, high standards for efficacy, healthy living expertise, and beauty industry experience to go beyond the ‘marketing hype’ and share what is truly beneficial to skin, health, and beauty.
As a long-time vegan and budding female entrepreneur I am also an advocate for gender equality and animal welfare, which is why my products are only tested on my marvelous sisters!
